General Function

Recruiting and Retention for the Heritage and Professional Craft Arts at BCC Southport Center involves a combination of communication (visual, written, face-to-face and digital) and data management skills. Under the guidance of the Center Director, this position is responsible for a wide range of activities toward the goal of attracting, registering, and serving students for classes offered at the BCC Southport Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Daily - Return phone calls and emails involving class inquiries and convert to online registrations. Give building tours when requested.
  • Routinely – Train students in the use of online registration both in-person and over the phone (peak demand Apr./ May and Oct/Nov).
  • Manage updates to existing and recurring contracts to accommodate schedule changes.
  • Routinely – Post on Facebook and Instagram (What’s New, Meet the Instructor, Shows/Events Updates, Student Recognition, etc.).
  • 3 times annually – Coordinate with Southport Center Director, instructors, and the BCC Marketing Director to update, produce and distribute the Schedule of Courses four-fold (drops October 1, April 1, May 1).
  • 2 times annually – Update and submit data files to Marketing for website (schedule, descriptions, etc.) September and April.
  • 2 times annually – update video in lobby (prior to Spring Semester and Fall Semester).
  • Perpetually – Maintain photo and video files of classes and artwork for publication purposes. Update and catalog hall displays (gallery and cases) with current works.
  • Work with students and instructors on biannual open house (public event, show and sale).
  • Other tasks as assigned by SPC Director. This will involve supporting classes, faculty, and other staff positions as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be self-motivated, work independently, and either have or cultivate an interest in the arts.
  • Must be helpful, considerate, proactive and persistent in serving the needs of our students.
  • Must understand, and be able to navigate, the specific student recruitment and retention issues of adult populations (45-65 and 65-85) as related to studio-based arts and crafts education.
  • Must demonstrate expertise in social media (digitally literate, on trend, friendly and creative in developing a unique and engaging brand voice that attracts followers).
  • Must be willing to learn school data management software.

Preferred Requirements

  • Familiarity with, and passion for, the arts and crafts culture
  • Photography skills
  • Outgoing but organized personality

Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience
