Position Summary
Ongoing data indicate that approximately one-half of Pima County high school graduates do not enroll in any form of postsecondary education following graduation. The Assistant Director of High School Engagement and Recruitment is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that increase the matriculation of local high school graduates into Pima Community College while advancing the College's commitment to expanding educational attainment and workforce readiness across Southern Arizona. Reporting to the Director of Student Recruitment, the Assistant Director helps drive PCC’s visibility and active presence across Pima County high schools, while directly supervising and guiding high school recruiters to ensure they meet established recruitment goals for the college. The Assistant Director leverages data-driven strategies, recruitment metrics, and the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to optimize outreach efforts, track prospective student progress, and boost conversion rates. Additionally, the Assistant Director plays a key role in helping to design early college programs, fostering collaborative partnerships between students and college staff, and cultivating strong relationships with high school administrators, counselors, students, and families to support a seamless transition from high school to postsecondary education.
The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides operational direction and day-to-day supervision to high school engagement and recruitment staff, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional standards governing higher education admissions, student privacy (such as FERPA), dual enrollment, and recruitment ethics
- Assists in prioritizing and assigning work, ensures staff training, conducts performance evaluations, and makes hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations
- Implements clear recruitment goals and performance benchmarks for high school recruiters. Leads, motivates, and coaches staff to achieve established recruitment and outreach targets and maintains accountability through ongoing monitoring and reporting
- Manages the daily implementation and effective use of the CRM system, recruitment tracking systems, and related educational technology platforms to track prospective students from initial inquiry through enrollment
- Trains and supports high school recruiters in CRM usage, data entry, and reporting to maintain accurate records and engagement history
- Analyzes CRM metrics and engagement data to track student progress, application completion, and conversion rates. Generates reports, identifies trends, and uses findings to streamline outreach pipeline workflows and optimize recruitment strategies
- Cultivates and maintains strategic partnerships with high school administrators, district leaders, counselors, teachers, students, families, and community organizations. Engages effectively with diverse populations to promote PCC programs and opportunities and support educational access and equity for historically underrepresented students
- Coordinates and leads the student engagement and recruitment team in planning and managing multiple concurrent recruitment activities, schedules, events, and multi-school district outreach efforts, including Pima Days, school visits, and PCC facility and program tours
- Represents or coordinates representation of PCC at school meetings, advisory groups, and community forums to enhance high school engagement and strengthen partnerships. Delivers presentations and workshops to high school students, families, school personnel, and community audiences, including student assemblies and parent orientations
- Oversees the delivery and administration of leadership development programs for high school students, incorporating postsecondary academic advising frameworks, career exploration principles, and student development practices to support college readiness, transition, and enrollment
- Collaborates with internal PCC departments including Dual Enrollment, Admissions, Financial Aid, and Academic Affairs to streamline the high school-to-college transition process
- Assists the Director in developing, implementing, and evaluating recruitment strategies aligned with PCC’s strategic enrollment goals and institutional leadership priorities
- Provides hands-on onsite support and training to High School Engagement and Recruitment Coordinators on student intake, needs assessment, and interviewing techniques to effectively evaluate prospective student needs, interests, and post-secondary readiness, ensuring their efforts align with departmental and institutional goals
- Evaluates ongoing recruitment programs and recommends operational adjustments based on performance data and best practices
- Engages students, faculty, and staff in co-designing early college initiatives and mentorship opportunities that build college familiarity and increase postsecondary transition rates
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor
Job Requirements/Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field of study and
- Three to five years of related experience in Leadership K-12, Higher Education, or a closely related field and
- One year of supervisory experience
or
- An equivalent combination of certification, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
Preferred
- Master’s degree in related field of study
- Five to eight years of related experience
- Bilingual Spanish language skills
- Experience working with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Element451, Slate, or similar systems). The incumbent will be expected to develop proficiency in the College’s CRM system and associated recruitment processes within six (6) months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Skill in advanced project management, workflow organization, and time management to balance high volume recruitment schedules, event planning, and multi-school district outreach
- Knowledge of CRM databases, recruitment tracking systems, and educational technology platforms
- Skill in utilizing CRM tools to track student progress, generate reports, and streamline outreach pipeline workflows
- Knowledge of supervisory and leadership principles, performance management, and staff development
- Skill in leading, motivating, and evaluating a team to achieve established recruitment and outreach targets
- Knowledge of higher education recruitment strategies, strategic enrollment management (SEM) principles, and high school outreach models
- Knowledge of early college models (e.g., dual enrollment, concurrent enrollment, transition pathways) and student engagement frameworks
- Skill in collaborative program design, stakeholder facilitation, and co-creating student-centered initiatives
- Skill in engaging effectively with diverse student, family, and community populations with cultural sensitivity
- Ability to foster an inclusive environment that supports educational access and equity for historically underrepresented students
- Skill in building and sustaining strategic partnerships with external entities, including school district leadership, counselors, and community organizations
- Skill in clear, persuasive, and transparent written and oral communication across diverse audiences, including high school students, families, school district administrators, and college staff
- Skill in analytical problem solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution to address operational challenges, navigate enrollment barriers, and streamline the high-school-to-college transition
- Skill in end-to-end program development, co-design, and continuous process improvement to create scalable recruitment initiatives, early college programs, and streamlined onboarding workflows
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing environments, manage unexpected disruptions during off-site events or campus visits, and maintain calm, decisive leadership during crisis situations
- Skill in delivering engaging, dynamic public presentations and workshops to large audiences, including high school student assemblies, parent orientations, and community forums
