About Build AI

Build AI is the data hyperscaler for Physical AI. We co-design hardware, collection, infrastructure, and research to scale the in-the-wild physical labor dataset by orders of magnitude. We learn from humans doing the real job, in real environments. Inflecting revenue, backed by top-tier investors and staffed by leading engineers, Build is becoming the bottleneck to solving physical labor.

Job Summary

We’re seeking a Technical Recruiter to own full-cycle hiring as we scale the data hyperscaler for Physical AI. This is an IC seat, not Head of Talent / VP. You will source, screen, and close engineers, researchers, operators, and Shenzhen hardware people, and you will leave fingerprints on how we hire: pipelines, structured loops, and candidate experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own requisitions end-to-end: source, screen, run structured interview loops, lead debriefs, and close with hiring managers and leadership
  • Source in places most recruiters skip: GitHub, arXiv and workshop papers, factory and hardware networks in Shenzhen, conference speaker lists — not only LinkedIn
  • Partner with hiring managers to write JDs, define the bar, and keep interview signal high across software, research, data, ops, and collection hardware
  • Keep Ashby clean: pipeline hygiene, scorecards, time-to-offer, and a candidate experience that matches the company
  • Track funnel metrics and fix the process when a loop is slow or a bar is fuzzy
  • Represent Build: why someone should bet a career on in-the-wild physical labor data, not another lab license

You may be a good fit if you have (Must-have qualifications)

  • 2+ years recruiting technical talent in a competitive market (startup or technology company)
  • Track record sourcing and placing software, research, data, or hardware-adjacent people
  • You can evaluate technical depth and fit without faking the conversation
  • You operate independently in ambiguity and will build systems, not wait for a playbook
  • Familiarity with an ATS (Ashby or similar) and sourcing platforms

Strong candidates may also have experience with (Nice-to-have qualifications)

  • You’ve hired in AI, robotics, hardware, or another niche where the best people are not on job boards
  • Experience recruiting across the US and China, or comfort working with Shenzhen hiring managers
  • A track record of closing candidates who had competing offers from labs or larger companies

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision packages with generous premium coverage
  • $500 per month credit for waiving medical benefits
  • Housing subsidy of $2k per month for those living within walking distance of the office
  • Relocation support for those moving to San Francisco (Financial District) or Shenzhen (Nanshan)
  • Various wellness benefits covering fitness, mental health, and more
  • Daily lunch and dinner in our office
  • Unlimited compute budget subject to ROI justification
  • Travel

How we're different

Build believes in the Bitter Lesson (http://www.incompleteideas.net/IncIdeas/BitterLesson.html). We are betting early on learning from real human work at massive scale, and that the economies of scale of collection beat extra sensors and extra fidelity. Our addressable market is all physical labor, unlike many of our competitors.

We are a fully in-person team in San Francisco (Financial District) and Shenzhen (Nanshan), and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both and work across disciplines as needed.

Build AI is an equal opportunity employer. We review every application. If you do not meet every bullet, still apply. Questions: research@build.ai
