Reporting to the Talent Acquisition Manager, the Talent Acquisition Specialist plays a pivotal role in aligning People & Culture (P&C) strategies with the organization’s overall business objectives. This role requires a strong strategic mindset and business acumen to understand the workforce needs of multiple business units and to implement talent acquisition practices that support long-term organizational goals. The Specialist will leverage a deep understanding of candidate attraction, sourcing, interviewing, and hiring to secure high[1]quality talent for both hourly and salaried roles.
With a proactive approach to talent pipeline development, this role also involves executing strategic initiatives aimed at attracting emerging talent and building a resilient talent pool that can support the organization’s evolving needs. By combining business insight with recruitment expertise, the Talent Acquisition Specialist will contribute to shaping the future workforce, ensuring that the organization is well[1]positioned for sustainable growth and success
How You’ll Add Value
- Partner with business leaders, HRBPs, and People & Culture teams to understand current and future workforce requirements across civil construction operations, and develop recruitment strategies that support project delivery, seasonal workforce demands, and long-term growth.
- Lead full-cycle recruitment for civil construction positions, including project managers, superintendents, forepersons, estimators, equipment operators, labourers, skilled trades, and technical professionals, from intake meetings through offer negotiation and onboarding.
- Leverage industry knowledge and market expertise to identify, attract, and engage top civil construction talent through direct sourcing, networking, referrals, and targeted recruitment campaigns.
- Conduct candidate screening, assessments, and interviews to evaluate technical qualifications, construction industry experience, safety orientation, and cultural fit.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to hiring leaders throughout the recruitment process, providing guidance on candidate evaluation, interviewing best practices, labour market trends, and hiring decisions.
- Develop and maintain strong talent pipelines for critical and hard-to-fill construction positions, proactively sourcing candidates to support current projects and future operational needs.
- Maintain and optimize the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and recruitment technologies, ensuring accurate reporting, data integrity, and effective tracking of recruitment metrics.
- Lead and enhance internship, co-op, apprenticeship, and summer student recruitment programs to create future talent pipelines for the organization.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of progressive talent acquisition experience, with significant experience recruiting within the civil construction, heavy construction, infrastructure, roadbuilding, utilities, mining, industrial, or related sectors.
- Proven success recruiting for high-volume and specialized construction positions across field operations, skilled trades, equipment operators, project management, engineering, and technical disciplines.
- Strong understanding of civil construction operations, workforce planning, project-based hiring, union and non-union environments, and seasonal recruitment challenges.
- Bachelor's degree or a Diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of recruitment technologies, ATS platforms, recruitment marketing, and employer branding strategies.
- Working knowledge of ADP Recruiting
- Data-driven approach to talent acquisition, using recruitment metrics and market intelligence to inform decision-making and improve hiring outcomes.
