Position Overview
Summit Public Schools is seeking a Director of Recruitment & Selection to lead the network-wide strategy for attracting and selecting top-tier, diverse talent across our school sites and Home Office. Reporting to the Senior Director of People Operations, you will build and scale data-informed recruitment systems, cultivate strategic talent pipelines, manage the Manager of Recruitment & Selection, and partner closely with leaders across the organization to ensure we are fully staffed to deliver on our promise to students.
This position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

What You’ll Do
At Summit, attracting and hiring outstanding talent is one of our highest-leverage opportunities to transform student outcomes. The Director of Recruitment & Selection ensures that Summit schools and the Home Office are fully staffed year-round with high-quality, diverse educators, leaders, and support staff. Leading through a data-driven lens, you will own the network-wide recruitment strategy, refine selection systems and procedures to deliver exceptional candidate and hiring manager experiences, and cultivate strategic partnerships that build robust talent pipelines. Core responsibilities will include:
Strategy & Pipeline Development
- Lead network-wide strategy for recruitment and selection across all school-site and Home Office roles to build a robust candidate pipeline.
- Advance diversity and equity by designing fair, inclusive, and bias-aware selection processes that attract, hire, and retain candidates from historically underrepresented backgrounds.
- Define and elevate our employer brand by partnering with teams and leaders to refine Summit’s recruitment messaging, candidate communications, and digital attraction channels
- Build strategic partnerships with universities, placement agencies, and other organizations—including the Marshall Teacher Residency—to source top-tier talent.
- Drive proactive sourcing strategies and build active talent pools for all roles, prioritizing hard-to-fill, high-impact instructional and leadership roles.
Systems, Data & Operations
- Analyze recruitment metrics within our Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and other systems to evaluate funnel performance, refine sourcing strategies, and report insights to the Senior Director of People Operations, executive leadership and the Board.
- Optimize selection workflows by auditing, building, and scaling modern hiring tools, technologies, and interview protocols from the ground up to elevate candidate and hiring manager experiences.
Leadership, Coaching & Collaboration
- Manage the Manager of Recruitment & Selection through goal setting, routine coaching, performance development, and clear role alignment.
- Coach hiring managers and school leaders on effective talent planning, inclusive selection methods, and structured interviewing techniques to establish the talent team as a trusted, expert partner.
- Lead change management across school and network leadership, guiding teams through recruitment system updates, standardized interview protocols, and shifts in hiring practices with empathy and clear communication.
- Partner cross-functionally with People Operations and Home Office leaders to align onboarding, retention, and overall talent management initiatives and execute our comprehensive people experience strategy.
- Deliver professional development and workshops across the organization on recruitment best practices, retention strategies, and bias mitigation.
- Perform other related duties and special projects as needed or assigned to support overall team and organizational goals.
What You Need
- A true passion for our organization's mission to empower all students with the skills necessary to succeed in college, career, and life
- 5+ years of progressive talent acquisition and recruitment experience, with a proven track record of designing, building, or scaling recruitment systems
- 1+ years of direct people management highly preferred
- Experience in K-12 education— particularly working with or supporting school site leaders—is highly preferred.
- Ability to travel across Summit school sites and attend recruitment events across the San Francisco Bay Area and Washington state when required
- Demonstrated proficiency with Applicant Tracking Systems and Google Workspace.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Must meet all health clearance requirements and successfully pass reference, background, and criminal history checks in accordance with applicable Education Code requirements

Additionally, our compensation policy strives to be equitable and transparent. The pay for this position starts at $122,349 and goes up to $144,543 commensurate with location, experience, and qualifications.
