About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and organized Safety & Driver Recruiter to join our growing transportation team. This position plays a key role in recruiting qualified CDL Class A drivers while supporting our day-to-day safety and DOT compliance efforts.

The ideal candidate has experience in the trucking or transportation industry, understands the importance of DOT compliance, and is comfortable communicating with drivers throughout the recruiting, onboarding, and employment process.

What You'll Do

Driver Recruiting & Onboarding

  • Recruit qualified CDL Class A drivers for local port drayage and other driving positions.
  • Post and maintain job advertisements across recruiting platforms.
  • Review applications and conduct initial phone screenings and interviews.
  • Verify driver qualifications, experience, endorsements, and employment history.
  • Coordinate background checks, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs), Clearinghouse queries, and pre-employment drug testing.
  • Maintain communication with candidates throughout the hiring process.
  • Coordinate driver orientation and onboarding.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of qualified driver candidates.
  • Partner with Operations, Dispatch, HR, and Management to meet driver staffing needs.
  • Assist with driver retention and employee referral initiatives.

Safety & DOT Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and current Driver Qualification (DQ) files for W2 employees, independent motor carriers, and owner operators.
  • Monitor CDL, medical certification, MVR, and other driver-document expiration dates.
  • Assist with FMCSA and DOT compliance requirements.
  • Monitor driver compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist with Hours-of-Service and electronic log compliance.
  • Coordinate required safety training and driver meetings.
  • Assist with accident and incident documentation and follow-up.
  • Track safety violations, corrective actions, and required documentation.
  • Support preparation for DOT audits and other compliance reviews.
  • Maintain organized and confidential safety and driver records.

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of recruiting, transportation safety, trucking, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience recruiting CDL Class A drivers strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with DOT and FMCSA regulations.
  • Knowledge of Driver Qualification files, MVRs, DOT medical cards, drug and alcohol testing requirements, and FMCSA Clearinghouse preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Comfortable working directly with drivers, managers, and outside vendors.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced transportation environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and comfortable learning HR, recruiting, and transportation systems.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
