What You Will Do
Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a senior communications professional to drive recruitment marketing communications in support of institutional hiring priorities. This position is part of the Communications and External Affairs division and is deployed to Talent Acquisition as its primary communications partner.
Working day to day with Talent Acquisition, you will turn workforce and recruiting needs into audience-focused communications strategies, campaigns and content. You will provide independent counsel, lead complex projects and coordinate communications resources to help urgent hiring priorities reach the right audiences. Talent Acquisition sets the hiring priorities and recruiting goals; this role leads the communications strategy and execution that support them.
Talent acquisition communications strategy
- Advise Talent Acquisition leaders, recruiters and hiring organizations on communications strategies for priority occupations, hard-to-fill roles, hiring initiatives and recruiting events.
- Develop integrated communications plans that define audiences, messages, calls to action, channels and measures of success.
Content and channel strategy
- Create candidate-focused content for career landing pages, email, advertising, job boards, recruiting platforms, event materials and other channels.
- Coordinate with social media, web, design, multimedia and other Communications and External Affairs teams to deliver cohesive campaigns that meet institutional standards.
- Manage the Talent Acquisition group's CRM tool.
Campaign leadership and operations
- Plan and manage paid recruitment advertising across search, display, streaming and other appropriate channels.
- Manage campaign budgets, schedules, agencies, media vendors, contracts and deliverables.
- Support candidate-facing recruiting platforms and tools. This includes managing contracts, training and implementation.
Measurement and improvement
- Establish campaign measures tied to recruiting goals, including reach, engagement, careers website traffic, conversions and applications.
- Analyze results, brief stakeholders and recommend changes to content, audience targeting, channel mix and spending.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements
Writing and strategic communication
You must have demonstrated exceptional writing and editing skills, including having the ability to translate complex workforce or business needs into clear, audience-focused content. You are familiar with working within editorial, institutional brand, accessibility, and approval requirements.
Technical knowledge and tools
You will have a thorough knowledge of English grammar and punctuation. You will have advanced proficiency using Microsoft Word and have a baseline understanding of generative AI tools, prompt engineering, evaluating AI-generated content for accuracy and quality, and applying AI responsibly within organizational policies.
Marketing strategy and campaign execution
You will have advanced experience developing and executing marketing strategies and leading integrated campaigns for defined audiences and organizational priorities. Ideally, you have experience planning and managing multichannel campaigns across web, email, paid and organic digital media, social media, events or other communications channels.
Leadership, advising and collaboration
You have experience advising executives and customers, managing competing priorities, and independently leading complex projects. You will have worked with writers, designers, digital teams, vendors or agencies to deliver communications plans, product, and campaigns.
Metrics and analytics
You will have shown that you understand how to use analytics and campaign results to evaluate performance success, brief stakeholders, and recommend improvements. You have some experience managing budgets, schedules, contracts, or vendor deliverables.
Education/experience
This position requires a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or a physical, life, or social science and a minimum of eight years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications
Recruitment and talent acquisition background
You have direct experience in recruitment marketing or talent acquisition communications. (Experience supporting recruitment for STEM, skilled trades, national security or other specialized occupations is a plus.)
Recruiting systems and institutional compliance
You're familiar with the inner workings of career websites, job boards, recruiting platforms, candidate relationship management systems or applicant tracking systems.
Industry knowledge
You have experience working in a national laboratory, matrixed, or other large government organization.
Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Santa Fe, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
