HR Generalist - Talent Acquisition
About the Role
J.E. Shurden Construction is a growing heavy civil construction company supporting projects throughout Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, and the surrounding region. We are seeking an HR Generalist – Talent Acquisition to join our growing Human Resources team. Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources, this position will have a strong focus on recruiting and onboarding field employees while also supporting general HR functions across the organization.
This is a remote-based position in Arkansas with periodic in-person collaboration and approximately 15–20% travel to active job sites. Travel may include new-hire orientations, employee support, training, recruiting initiatives, and annual benefits open enrollment. Some overnight travel will be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle recruiting for field and skilled-trade positions, including heavy equipment operators, civil laborers, and other personnel.
- Build and maintain an active candidate pipeline across current and upcoming project locations.
- Source and screen candidates using job boards, social media, trade networks, referrals, and community outreach.
- Partner with field leadership to understand staffing needs and coordinate interviews and hiring decisions.
- Coordinate the new-hire process from accepted offer through successful onboarding.
- Manage electronic onboarding and employee documentation through BambooHR.
- Coordinate background checks, drug screens, physicals, Form I-9 documentation, and required field credentials.
- Assist with employee records, benefits administration, HR documentation, employee questions, and other general HR responsibilities.
- Travel to project sites as needed to conduct orientations, support employees and field leadership, and assist with annual benefits open enrollment.
- Partner with the Director of Human Resources on employee engagement, retention, training, compliance, and other HR initiatives.
Qualifications
- 2–4 years of experience in Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, or a combination of HR and recruiting responsibilities.
- Experience recruiting skilled trades, construction employees, heavy equipment operators, industrial workers, leadership, or other equivalent positions strongly preferred.
- Experience managing multiple open positions or high-volume recruiting activity.
- Working knowledge of onboarding, Form I-9 requirements, pre-employment screening, and general HR practices.
- Experience with an ATS or HRIS; BambooHR experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, follow-through, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining regular communication and collaboration with the HR Director and field leadership.
- Comfortable visiting active construction sites and wearing required PPE.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel approximately 15–20%, including occasional overnight travel.
- Must reside in Arkansas and be available for periodic in-person collaboration.
Compensation & Work Support
- Starting base salary of $55,000, with flexibility based on relevant experience and qualifications. Candidates with significant construction industry, skilled-trade recruiting, or directly related HR experience may be considered at a higher starting salary.
- Company-provided laptop, secondary monitor(s), and necessary remote-work equipment.
- Company-paid or reimbursed business travel.
- Mileage reimbursement or company-arranged rental transportation for qualifying travel.
- Company-paid lodging and applicable meal/per diem allowance for overnight business travel.
