The Role

The Advisor-Outreach & Recruitment Specialist serves as the outreach recruiter for all CEPS programs through coordinating outreach activities that provide access, increase visibility of our programs, and provide intentional service to prospective students in line with our value of equity and belonging. This position is responsible for providing initial advisement and recruitment support to prospective first-time-in-college, transfer, and adult learners, representing the breadth of CEPS programs, and supporting marketing efforts that promote these programs. The position assists prospective students in understanding academic and career pathways and connecting with appropriate university resources as they move through the recruitment and enrollment process.

Job Duties

Recruitment & Advising

  • Advise students, both undergraduate and graduate, regarding their programs and specializations.
  • Advise students on the process of transferring to CWU as an undergrad or a graduate student and, when necessary, help them with the credit transfer process.
  • Represent CEPS at career fairs, college transfer fairs, education fairs at organizations, tabling events etc. Provide 1:1 advising as requested at these events.
  • Present to potential groups of students at various high schools, community and technical colleges and organizations for the purpose of recruiting students interested in CEPS programs.
  • Provide individual and group advice through the college or at events to help students plan their transfer to CWU.
  • Represent the College at business, community, career centers, and special events with groups and individuals.
  • Coordinate with CWU high school advising/recruitment team to present the college programs to high school audiences.
  • Directly work with students and advocate on their behalf with the colleges and programs.
  • Prepare and conduct program-specific and general college orientation, workshops, college information days, campus tours and visitations when requested.
  • Analyze and interpret student data for department and university reports.
  • Provide outreach to potential students at recruiting events, and to current students at orientations, major fairs, etc.
  • Travel throughout WA state for recruitment activities.

Adult Learner/Academic Credit for Prior Learning Coordination (ACPL)

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for prospective adult learners interested in CEPS programs and Academic Credit for Prior Learning (ACPL).
  • Coordinate prospective student use of Credit Predictor Pro and the flow of ACPL applications and submissions.
  • Track and follow up with prospective adult learners throughout the ACPL, admissions, and enrollment processes to support continued progression.
  • Provide initial guidance to adult learners regarding CEPS academic pathways, ACPL opportunities, and appropriate next steps.
  • Facilitate warm handoffs to faculty program coordinators, program advisors, Admissions, and other university resources as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with faculty, advisors, and university partners to help resolve questions or barriers affecting prospective adult learners.
  • Maintain records and tracking of adult learner inquiries, ACPL activity, student progression, and outcomes.
  • Support adult learner recruitment activities, including workshops, information sessions, community events, employer/industry outreach, and other targeted recruitment opportunities.

Recruitment Strategy Support

-Serve on the CEPS College Recruitment Strategic Priorities Team

  • Contribute to the development and dissemination of CEPS marketing materials and e-recruitment activities.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of comprehensive recruitment programs, including marketing strategies to increase enrollment and awareness of program offerings to varying student population.
  • Collaborate with staff and faculty at CWU centers to ensure CEPS is represented and has necessary marketing and recruitment resources. Distribute marketing materials and course offering schedules.
  • Assist with analyzing and interpreting target markets for effective recruitment materials for the CEPS programs in conjunction with Dean, faculty, staff, and CWU Marketing and Communications.
  • Maintain awareness of new courses, programs, services, and policies within the college and, more broadly, within the university, to optimize effectiveness as a student recruiter.
  • May advise the Outreach and Recruitment Manager of marketability of programs and curriculum.
  • Coordinate with academic staff, student organizations and alumni to involve such individuals in their recruitment function.
  • Research and recommend innovative recruitment opportunities.

Outreach

  • In conjunction with the school of education and departments, develop, implement, coordinate and evaluate activities and programs that create and expand awareness of CEPS and its programs to unique populations.
  • Act as college liaison to other educational institutions, as well as corporate, community and governmental organizations or associations.
  • Build and sustain relationships between WA state technical/community colleges and high schools creating channels for students to enter CEPS programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four years of progressively responsible professional experience in related field and/or bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of higher education pathways and the needs of prospective first-time-in-college, transfer, and adult learners.
  • Experience advising and/or supporting prospective or current students in higher education programs.
  • Demonstrated experience presentation skills and workshop facilitation skills from high school audiences to adult.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience or training that demonstrates the ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook email to produce written correspondence, create and maintain spreadsheets, and receive and respond to email inquiries, tasks, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability and/or experience working collaboratively with students and/or colleagues to foster a supportive and effective learning and work environment.
  • OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience recruiting students for academic programs; demonstrated knowledge of advising and counseling students on curriculum and program of study.
  • Knowledge of institutional and/or academic policies and procedures.
  • Experience working with first-time-in-college, transfer, and/or adult learner populations.
  • Experience supporting prospective students through recruitment, admissions, enrollment, advising, or other student-facing processes.
  • Experience developing or supporting outreach activities, presentations, workshops, or recruitment events.
  • Experience marketing, conducting outreach, and collaborating with schools, colleges, employers, community organizations, and industry partners.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with external partners and stakeholders.
  • Experience with or knowledge of Credit for Prior Learning, adult learner pathways, or related practices.
  • Experience maintaining a database, working with spreadsheets, and creating reports.
  • Experience or interest in mentoring students (including adult students) from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives and issues into everyday conversations.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary: The Hiring Department's expected hiring range is $42,008 - $50,409 annually. Individual placement within the hiring range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the full annual salary range for this position is $42,008 to $58,811.

Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer workstation for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
